Why we priced Mercur without GMV fees

Percentage-of-GMV pricing taxes the thing you are trying to grow. Here is the arithmetic that made us drop it.

Every marketplace platform we evaluated before building Mercur charged a slice of gross merchandise value. On paper that reads as alignment: we only win when you win. In practice it means the software gets more expensive precisely as it becomes harder to replace.

The compounding problem

A 1% GMV fee on €5M of volume is €50,000 a year. At €50M it is €500,000 — for the same feature set, the same support, and the same servers you are already paying for yourself. Nothing about the cost of running the software grew tenfold.

  • Your platform bill scales with success, not with usage
  • Migration cost rises at the same rate, so leaving gets harder every quarter
  • Finance cannot forecast the line item without forecasting revenue first

What we do instead

A flat licence. The number you agree in year one is the number you pay in year three, whatever your volume does. If you outgrow a tier you move up because you need more capability, not because you sold more.

The licence is your only platform cost. Your success is not taxed.
